Last night was North Melbourne's first win in a final since beating Melbourne in the 1998 Preliminary Final. They lost the Grand Final to Adelaide a week later, then without a vote of members (exactly like us at Footscray in 1996) the then President Ron Casey allowed their name to be changed to the KANGAROOS.

So looking at it this way since entering the old VFL in 1925 with both Footscray and Hawthorn, North Melbourne have won 3 Premierships, and the Kangaroos 1 because the scoreboard (at the time) went like this -

North Melbourne 3

Kangaroos 1

1974 Richmond defeated North Melbourne

1975 Hawthorn defeated by North Melbourne

1976 Hawthorn beat North Melbourne

1977 Collingwood drew with North Melbourne

1977 Collingwood lost to North Melbourne (in the Grand Final replay)

1978 Hawthorn beat North Melbourne

1996 Sydney defeated by North Melbourne

1998 North Melbourne defeated by Adelaide

1999 Kangaroos defeated Carlton

Well done again to North Melbourne's President James Brayshaw not just for leading the fight against the move to the Gold Coast at the end of 2007, but also for changing their name back to North Melbourne.

It has been a long time between drinks- 16 years- but you deserved it.

James Brayshaw now has the same amount of wins in a final as Peter Gordon does (1992 v St Kilda)

James Brayshaw: 2008-2014

Peter Gordon: 1990-1996 & 2013-2014

But apparently we are doing better than them by NOT changing our name back
