We should have still beat the Englishmen. The time wasting was terrible- how did they get away with it?

But heaps of time to get one of the last two out- come on that was poor!

The hystreria about the umpires and the 'to and froms' supposedly sledging us in the Lords test makes me laugh.

For 20 years our Australian cricket team have been viciously sledging opponents as well as usually getting a pretty good go from the men in white. Yet again we have proved (thats the Aussie cricket media at the moment rather than the actual Aussie cricket team) that we can give it but can't take it. When we get it back we squeal about it. Glenn McGrath was a perfect example- if you can't take it- don't give it out.

We got the rough end of the pineapple against the to and froms at Lords- no disputing that- the third umpire should have been utilised for the Hughes dismissal- Huseey was unfortunate, but we have got a ripper go for years- the Steve Bucknor test against India in Sydney two seasons ago was a pretty good example.

I'm Portuguese, so my knowledge of the arcane sport of cricket is very limited and I usually don't follow it. Yet I've been following the Ashes "live text" on the BBC website, mainly because it's fun to leave it on at work and check the comments from time to time when my head needs a break. Everyone can e-mail or text the BBC and, all credit to them, the English fans seem like a good bunch (maybe all the rude/ obnoxious comments are censored by the beeb, who knows).

When they won there were joyful/ boastful comments, but also an intriguing running debate about what would happen if the Queen (who was in attendance) decided to streak. Would the security guards tackle her? Would her bodyguards tackle the security guards? Would she jump over the wicket, etc. They seemed at least as interested in letting their creativity run wild as in rejoicing while Australian wickets fell faster than Bernie Madoff's reputation.

Today right after lunch, when England's score was more or less

Strauss c North b Siddle 3
Cook c Clarke b Clark 30
Bopara c Hussey b Hilfenhaus 1
Bell c Haddin b Johnson 8
Collingwood c Ponting b Clark 0
Prior not out 30
Broad c Katich b Clark 3
S Harmison not out 0

Extras 2nb 1w 5b 2lb 10

this comment appeared: Jonny in the TMS inbox: "Young Extras can hold his head high as he enjoys his cucumber sandwiches knowing that even with a lowly innings of 10 he's still out-bat five of his colleagues." That had me laughing out loud. Luckily the two other people that work in the same room as I do are both on holiday (yes, it's glorious summer in the Northern Hemisphere).

It turns out that young "Extras" ended up out-batting nine of his team mates!

Well I am a bit late replying to you here in this topic but 'The Ashes' have been relinquished again for the second time this decade.

Drawing the first test has proved to be so crucial- oh well the series was interesting I guess right to the end.
