Geoff Leek has died. Geoff played for Essendon and his last game was in a winning Grand Final (1962) just like our Alan Martin who's final match was the 1954 Grand Final triumph.

What we at Footscray who never saw Geoff Leek play, may remember Geoff as a football commentator on Channel 2. He was very good at it with a fine voice and a friendly demeanour. He also should stand out for Footscray supporters as being the voice in 1978 during two of our memorable games. He was there when Templeton was slotting home his 15 of the 33 during the record score game, then a few weeks later, it was his voice that announced Kelvin Templeton's 100th goal against Collingwood at their joint.

The July 1 1978 chapter on this website requires expanding as the 30th anniversary of that day will arrive in the middle of this year. Sadly Geoff Leek wont be there for it.

A sad day for football and although an Essendon player, Geoff Leek still had a place in my Footscray heart for being there and telling all first hand, some of Footscray's most memorable moments as they happened. Some of you may know that the image to the left of this text is the crowd rushing onto the ground during that 1978 record score game that Geoff commentated on.
