Seems Melbourne will get a second A-league franchise.

I'm opposed to it, as it will divide Victory's support, meaning single team cities [Adelaide eg] will have a better home crowd advantage.

The name's being bandied about are:

Melbourne Heart [will no doubt adopt the nickname the Jam Tarts, or Jambos]
Melbourne City [hope they're more successful than Manchester City]
Melbourne Celtic [okay I made that one up but that'd be awesome!]

Any other suggested names? Standard football names would make it....

Melbourne United
Real Melbourne
Dynamo Melbourne
Inter Melbourne
Sporting Melbourne
Zenit Melbourne

I wonder who can come up with the best/worst name??

My worst names:

Melbourne Rangers
Melbourne Rovers
Melbourne Wanderers
Melbourne Knight Riders
Melbourne Australians
Melbourne Western Bulldogs
Melbourne Knickerbockers

Sporting Melbourne

My worst names:

Melbourne Knight Riders
Melbourne Western Bulldogs
Melbourne Knickerbockers

Sporting Melbourne: would bring a tear to a glass eye. Throw in green and white hoops and a crest featuring a rampant lion and you'll have something truly beautiful.

Knight Riders: one team with that name in the world is quite enough. By the way, what's with the IPL and royalty? They have the Royals, the Royal Challengers, the Super Kings and the Kings IX. What's that all about?

Melbourne Western Bulldogs: no way!

Melbourne Knickerbockers:

Here in Portugal we have a club that is called "Vigor da Mocidade" (Vigour of Youth), another that goes by the name of "Amigos da Paz" (Friends of Peace). In Brazil they have "Semando Cidadania" (Sowing Citizenship), "Forças do Bem" (Forces of Good) and "Futuro bem Próximo" (Very Near Future). How about one of those names  ? Any one of them would surely be an attention grabber.
