Roy Higgins was a magnificent jockey and a really good personable bloke.
Very sad to learn of his death last week.
Roy Higgins was one of the few sporting personalities living in Melbourne, not too have an allegiance to any football club in the VFL then later AFL. Most cricketers follow a team- like Merv Hughes is a Footscray supporter, Bill Lawry followed Fitzroy.
