It is a book called -
THE BULLDOG HERITAGE
which has interviews and information from former players and descendants of really olden day players, as in before 1925 when the Footscray Football Club were the Kings of Victorian football.
It is mentioned in this edition of THE BULLDOG magazine on page 9 which arrived in letter boxes and Post Office Boxes today- it has Barry Hall on the front cover
The book will cost $69.95, so please buy it, do NOT wait for your mate/brother/next door neighbour etc to buy it and then borrow it from them and read it after they have finished , like so many did with Unleashed. This is the first book about Footscray since UNLEASHED, which hit the club shop in December 1996. The main player in this project has put many hours of his time into it,(as he did with UNLEASHED) through sheer love of the club- he hasn't received a wage for his efforts in tracking down the information, interviewing players and dead players living descendants. So if more people buy the book it will make it easier for future books, dvds etc to be organised for you the fan.
So mark it in for late May 2010- THE BULLDOG HERITAGE

I had heard that there was a book coming out from other sources and believe it is the brainchild of our 1960 Brownlow Medallist, 'Gentleman' John Schultz. From what I'm told the players write their own stories of their time with the club.
I can't wait to get it and for a history nut like myself (its been a long wait since Unleashed came out), to get the book on the night of the Hall of Fame dinner will top off what should be a ripper night for us dyed in the wool bulldog supporters.

Imagine say Fevola being asked to perform that task there now with a visiting Head of State? What if President Obama came to Melbourne and Fev was sitting with him- 'So Barack me old buddy- who do you barrack for DUDE? What would he say to the French President's wife- Carla ? Pressure points, pressure points -Better leave it at that
Anyway that book will be great- I understand that there may be a photo of Allan Stoneham in the dressing rooms just following the moment of his finest hour? I wonder how many 'Western' fans know what game and year that would be from?

I already have a copy of 'The History of the Footscray Football Club - Unleashed', it'd be great to get a more recent and uploaded history of the Bulldogs Heritage, if you can still call it that.
What I understand the book will be interviews with older players or their relatives from different eras as for example 1920-1930, 1930-1940, 1950-1960 etc
As many of these players are no longer with us- it will be descendants of them who will provide the story. Footscray's VFA History will also be taken into account (as it was in Unleashed)
There will be many images and photographs that have not been seen before. Some rare stuff
and yes it is the first book about the club since 1996 when Unleashed came out.

Caveman, or anyone else for that matter - do you know if there will be a book launch? And when exactly the book will be released?
I understand that there will definitely be a book launch, most likely closer to this upcoming Friday.
Bloke and his wife that I know are going to it -We are all assuming that their father-in-law and father will be inducted into it. When you win a Brownlow Medal you are likely have a pretty good chance to get a guernsey.

Against Fitzroy at Waverley? He marked late in the last quarter, played on and goaled to win it for us.
That is right Saturday 21st August 1976, Footscray v Fitzroy at Waverley - but he kicked it from a set shot after the siren. A mate of mine was who was there told me how the crowd went completely beserk with joy when Stoneham's goal to the little scoreboard end (the right hand end on tv) sailed through. Allan Stoneham was walking in from outside the boundary line when he kicked it. The unusual score was 4.11.35 to 3.16.34.
The Fitzroy coach years later in the late 1990's became President of Collingwood - Kevin Rose brother of Bobby Rose who coached us in the 1972-1975 era.
Another Footscray v Fitzroy game that made headlines before was the Round 2 1975 clash at home. It was to be only the 2nd time (and I believe so far the last to this point) where brothers were the rival coaches in a game- the previous brothers were Norm Smith and Len Smith. There was a picture in one of the newspapers of the Rose brothers leading up to the game.
Laurie Sandilands kicked 8 that day in a comfortable win over Fitzroy whom were wearing yellow shorts that April afternoon, whilst Footscray were sporting the red shorts for the first time in this our first home game of 1975. It was also the first home game that saw Footscray in the new guernsey- there was now two white bands with the one red band in between these white ones. New start and Laurie Sandilands would have been in a great mood after his 8 goals in a winning display in this new guernsey and the new look red shorts after years of the black colored home shorts.
Sadly not - that afternoon was the Neil Sachse game- we all know about that dont we?
